Staff Spotlight: Welcome Ameer Balton

Latuli’s service captain, Ameer Balton, brings a résumé that includes posts at some of Houston’s most recognizable high-end restaurants. But his hospitality journey began in a humble route that insiders know is a foundational cornerstone of the business: washing dishes at a burger joint in his native Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Over his 15 years in the industry, Ameer has steadily worked his way up, holding positions in Houston at Powder Keg (bar manager), Bocca Italian Kitchen (assistant general manager), Brasserie 19 (floor manager), and most recently, front-of-house at Drake’s Hollywood.

Since moving to Houston in 2017, he amassed a great deal of experience in bartending and cocktail history. His dream job is to one day open his own jazz bar.

“I am a career-driven individual. I love this industry because every day is not like the last,” he said. “You never know what to expect and it keeps me on my toes.”

At Latuli Ameer intends to concentrate on team building, leadership, and connecting with the staff who helped earn Latuli a spot among the 10 Best New Restaurants in Texas, according to Texas Monthly.

Outside of work Ameer is an avid tennis player and proud dog parent to his 4-year-old dog, Apollo.
