What I’m Drinking Now: Jeb Stuart’s Wine Pick of the Month
Anysbos "Disdit" White Blend Botrivier, South Africa
Translated from Afrikaans (the West Germanic language primarily spoken in South Africa), “disdit” means “this is it” or “this is the one.” And in terms of an enjoyable wine, it is certainly that. Mostly Chenin Blanc, rounded out with equal parts Grenache Blanc, Marsanne and Roussanne, this white blend is both rich and fresh, with notes of white peach and jasmine. (Anysbos is named for the wild fennel found in the vineyard where the Chenin Blanc is grown.)
Sporting a clean, chalky finish, the wine is made with minimal intervention, whole-bunch pressing, spontaneous fermentation and is then aged in seasoned oak barrels for 10 months.
It’s easy to love on its own but also pairs beautifully with Latuli’s Ahi Tuna and Snapper Carpaccio, the Pecan-Smoked Pork Chop, or the Greener Pastures Chicken.
